Question 1. How did you experiment with different ideas in your styling choices?
I came prepared to the class after reading the email that the course tutor sent everyone. I got my favorite bag and wore a fun outfit. The main focus in the task was the bag, and since I didn’t want to take too much attention away from the bag, I kept my outfit pretty classic and added some layers with a singlet, button up shirt and a blazer. The bag had some brown in it so I added some brown pants and loafers with sunglasses to complete the look. The blazer and the shirt were cool toned so it made the bag stand out more but the rest of the outfit was warm toned which I think pulled it all together. Most of the locations I chose had brick walls which I think complemented the bag. All in all, I had a lot of fun with all the creative freedom I was given.
Question 2. In what ways did you contribute to your group task?
Our group consisted of 3 people, most of the groups were a pair so we had to make sure we didn’t take up too much time for the task. I suggested we divided the time up into 3 so that no one will lose out. I helped out by taking some pictures of my teammate for her outcome and following her direction on how she wants it. I also suggested some ideas that she could use for her task. We shot at a couple of locations and everyone was super cooperative of each other’s vision and shoots. During the editing part of the session, we gave each other feedback and suggestions on what we can do to make it look better.
Question 3. What might you need to improve following on from this session?
I think following on from this session I might need to be a little bit more experimental. I feel like I might’ve played it a little safe with my styling choices with an everyday type of outfit. I didn’t try to experiment with more props or the extra clothing choices we were given because of the time constraint. I like clean lines and symmetry quite a lot so I tend to stay in my comfort zone but I think the only way I can explore and find my identity is by getting out of that comfort zone and having a bit more fun with colors and silhouette’s. With the editing I went in with some simple color grading which I still like but next time I want to try using different apps and edits to make my picture stand out even more.
